Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial efforts at success in mainstream music failed, two different record labels signing her the singer and then pulling her out before she had any new material released. However, in 2007, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted modest attention for its cheerfully flippant title track. Perry sparked more attention within a couple of months, with the single "I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to the desire for sexual pleasure accompanied by electronic beats that are hard to resist. Certain critics accused the song of encouraging homosexual relations, and others asserted that its racy depiction was meant for men to entice them into romantic fantasies. The combination of excitement, a polished tune and an enthralling chorus made to make it a top ten single across a range of countries. The song helped sell more albums, including one of the Boys (2007). Hot N Cold, Perry's bouncy and sharply-tongued album with the second single that became a hit, also received a lot of attention. The album Perry created herself sold more than three million copies.
